Ditch the Weight & Guns

Ditch the Weight & Guns 5K Walk & Run, Inc. is an organization that promotes and raises awareness of nutrition, physical activity, and gun violence prevention in underserved communities in Chicago. We present Englewood 5K, Chatham 5K, Roseland 5K, three closed course races held on the South side of Chicago.

There exist an unquestionable correlation between obesity and poverty, and poverty and crime. Lack of fresh fruits and vegetables, inadequate medical resources, and a failing school system are a few causations of social disorganization. It is the objective “Ditch the Weight & Guns” to host a peaceful community-led event.

Race Donations

Donations collected will be applied towards three (3) Chicago Park District Level 4 Athletic Event Permits ($22,665) and other race expenses including, but not limited to:

    Medals and Liability Insurance
  • $1200
    Medical Services

also water, T-shirts, marketing, giveaways, entertainment etc. In addition to race cost, a portion of the proceeds will be utilized to gift local schools and organizations in Englewood, Chatham, Roseland.

Sponors and Press

Last year 900+ individuals participated in the race, including City of Chicago Mayor Emanuel and press coverage includes: Chicago Tribune, Bean Soup Times,, WKKC, DNA Info Chicago, WVON, WFLD-TV (FOX 32), WLS-TV (ABC 7), and Chicago Crusader. “Ditch the Weight & Guns” Englewood 5K, Chatham 5K, Roseland 5K is expected to draw a crowd of 3,000. We ask your support in making these races momentous for the South side of Chicago.
